Lens Flare of Bright Sun

Lens flare from the sun is normally a photographer's worst nightmare - ruining the shot and affecting the contrast. This is one of my favourite lens flare examples, and ends up being a half decent photo. How to shoot photos in bright sun? Use a lens cover to shade the sun.

You can see how the flare from the sun has reflected around the lens, producing spots and rays which cover up a lot of the rest of the scene, and darken the overall picture. However, this accentuates the brightness of the sun and demonstrates how it was beating down that day.
